You are invited to go along to Stawell Entertainment Centre and try your hand at trivia for a good cause next month.
The July 18 event, to be hosted by Ballarat's 'Trivia with a Twist' and backed by Swifts Football Netball Club is in support of Stawell woman Lauren Dempsey as she prepares to tackle one of the world's most challenging places.
Ms Dempsey will be trekking the Himalayas from October 8-19, through a company called Inspired Adventures in order to raise money and awareness for mental health and the Black Dog Institute.
The Bhutan Trek to Happiness raises much needed funds for Black Dog Institute to continue working on making a difference to people living with mental illness.
Black Dog relies on people in the community to help fund its work and the support it receives makes a huge difference.
In her quest to be successful in October, Ms Dempsey said she is seeking support from the Stawell community.
"I am currently fundraising for Black Dog Institute as well as fundraising to cover travel costs for Bhutan," she said.
"This is an important cause for me as I believe reducing the stigma of mental health in our community is very important."
One in five Australians are affected by mental illness every year, with depression one of the most common conditions.
Ms Dempsey said she is hoping to make a difference.
"I want to do my best to give back to a community that has done so much for me. I am seeking the community's help and support in order to make this possible," she said.
Ms Dempsey said donations of goods for raffle prizes on the trivia night or financial donations to assist with travel costs would be much appreciated.
For those wishing to attend, tickets are $25 and are available from Llewats Cafe or JK Hair in Stawell. They will also be sold at the door on the night.
Tables of 10 can be reserved, plus you can bring you own nibbles and there will be drinks at bar prices available.
Any businesses that are interested in donating auction or silent auction items can contact Ms Dempsey on 0435 517 102, via email laurendempsey2008@hotmail.com or by visiting the Trek to Happiness Facebook page, www.facebook.com/trektohappiness.
