Go Red for Women Day is part of the Heart Foundation's annual Go Red for Women campaign that aims to shine a light on the problem of heart disease in women.
Stawell and district residents were among some of the thousands of people nationwide who donned red attire on June 11 to draw awareness to the issue.
Heart Foundation Victoria CEO Diana Heggie said people had been urged to go red to help the Heart Foundation beat heart disease, the single biggest killer of Australian women.
"We asked women and the men who love them to Go Red on June 11 and raise money to help the Heart Foundation beat the single biggest killer of Australian women," she said.
"Don't worry if you missed June 11, you can help save the lives of the women you love by holding a Go Red for Women event anytime in June."
Ms Heggie said the Go Red for Women imitative is the Heart Foundation's attempt to save the lives of Aussie women from the debilitating, chronic disease.
"Sadly, every hour of everyday a woman will lose her life to heart disease," she said.
"These are our mothers, aunts, daughters, sisters and friends all taken too soon by a chronic disease that is largely preventable."
Ms Heggie said ninety per cent of Australian women have at least one risk factor for heart disease, two in three women have at least two risk factors and one in six women have at least four risk factors for heart disease.
The Heart Foundation has been running the Go Red for Women campaign since 2008 in an effort to raise vital funds for research, treatment and prevention along with increasing the awareness in women.
