Mr Broad congratulated Northern Grampians Shire staff and councillors and the Stawell Gold Mine on turning the idea into a reality.
"It's a credit to the council to have taken on a new idea such as this," Mr Broad said.
"We congratulate everyone involved on their efforts to date and look forward to seeing how the project develops over the next few years."
Mr Broad also discussed the success of the Grampians Peaks Trail in the Federal budget after it received a further $10 million funding.
"The Grampians is a unique part of the world and people want to be able to do long hikes without roughing it. That's what the Peaks Trail will provide.
"We'll see more people coming through the Grampians to stop, spend and experience. It's a big win for the region," Mr Broad said.
Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson said council was grateful for the support of the Federal Government.
"The support of Mr Broad and his government is very important to council so we were pleased to host him here and have a chat about the projects.
"We're looking forward to the next stages of both SUPL and the Peaks Trail. It's certainly a very exciting time for the Northern Grampians Shire," Cr Emerson said.
Work is continuing on the planning stage of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory with regular meetings taking place between council, the Centre of Excellence for Particle Physics (CoEPP), and Stawell Gold Mine.
Work is expected to begin on the Grampians Peaks Trail in the near future with a target completion date of late 2017.
