Used as a landmark by many, and seen as one of the icons in town, it opened as a centre of worship by Presbyterians in 1868.
The spire was completed in 1869, with the scaffolding removed and the spire unveiled for the community's assessment of its perspective.
Since then, it has inspired many in their lives.
Continuing in that tradition, the spire is the inspiration for an art exhibition titled 'A View to Inspire.'
People are invited to submit works of art for the exhibition with the focus on what inspires them - The spire may be a feature for some.
To be held over the long weekend in June, the Exhibition will host two and three dimensional works.
As well as enjoying the art, the exhibition will also be used to help bring the community together and inspire awareness of the impact of the need for some internal repairs in the spire.
People who are interested in exhibiting or supporting the project in some way are welcome to contact Rev Susan Pearse on 5358 1161 or Ian Holwell on 5358 2495.
