Seniors give to Stawell hospital

STAWELL - Stawell Senior Citizens Centre members were delighted to hand over a cheque for more than three thousand dollars to Stawell Regional Health.

The money was donated as a result of another successful line dancing event conducted in August at the Stawell Entertainment Centre.

The event attracted around 130 people. As a result of line dancing workshops in the morning with popular Melbourne instructor Darren Mitchell and social dancing in the afternoon, a total of $3443.50 was raised for the Stawell Regional Health Oncology Unit.

Event organiser Jeanette Ekman said she couldn't believe the amount of support received from line dancers from across Victoria and interstate, as well as business operators who donated countless items for raffle prizes.

"It was just an amazing effort from everyone," Mrs Ekman said.

"To raise that much money from the event was excellent. It has just grown and grown and it really exceeded all my expectations."

The workshops with Darren Mitchell were described by Mrs Ekman as an overwhelming success, while the afternoon was reserved for social dancing and socialising.

Many visitors travelled from the Latrobe Valley, Melbourne, Portland, other parts of Victoria and even South Australia to take part in the line dancing event, which was once again an overwhelming success.

The Stawell Senior Citizens are always on the lookout for new ways to raise money for Stawell Regional Health and will now commence planning for next year's fundraising activities.
