A keen golfer who has been playing since he was five, Nellthorp went to Horsham to contest the first round of the championships where he finished second.
Last Friday, the 11-year old returned to Horsham where he again finished second to book himself a place in Monday's Victorian state final at Kooringal Golf Club, Melbourne.
Joining Nellthorp from the Wimmera will be Halls Gap student Charlie McIntosh, who finished third in both rounds.
Both rounds consisted of nine holes.
It will be an 18-hole tournament played on Monday.
It's Nellthorp's second year of participating in the Junior Primary School Regional Championship event (he made the second round in 2011).
The grade five student is looking forward to the challenge and has had plenty of practice.
"I go out to Stawell Golf Club most weekends and play with Dad.
"He usually beats me but we play team events," Nellthorp said.
Ryan plays off a handicap of 33.
He said it will be hard to compete against other students who practice all the time but it is a terrific opportunity for the youngster.
The Junior Primary School Regional Championship event is looking for more competitors for next year.
Students who are interested can either ask their teacher or visit events.golfvic.org.au for event searches and online entries.
