The debutante balls will be held on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.
In Australia a debutante ball is often part of the Secondary College system. It is usually optional and only for those students, both male and female, who wish to take part.
Traditionally the girl asks the boy to the ball. debutante students who are partaking in the official proceedings must learn how to Ballroom Dance. Both men and women are included because the ball symbolises the debut of the soon-to-graduate Secondary College students into the young adult world.
This year Neil and Sheila Thornton are dedicating their time to instruct the debs and their partners.
Neil and Sheila have been instructing for more than 40 years. Training sessions are currently being held twice a week.
Committee member Kylie Adamson said the debutantes and their partners are beginning to get excited with the event approaching.
"We are grateful for all the parent support to prepare for and organise the ball," she said.
"A huge thanks must go to dance instructors Neil and Sheila Thornton for their patience and enthusiasm over the past 12 weeks. Thank you also to the local businesses for their support."
The deb balls will be held at the Stawell Entertainment Centre. Commencing at 7.30pm, with presentations begin at 8pm.
Balcony seating tickets will be available to be purchased at the door. Prices are adults $12 and students $8.
