The inaugural Mother's Day Classic in Stawell attracted more than 400 participants and organisers are hoping for similar interest for the event on Sunday, May 10.
The Mother's Day Classic is an entertaining and family-friendly event that offers people of all ages the chance to participate in a non-competitive, inspiring and fun walk or run that raises vital funds for breast cancer research.
Residents are encouraged to contact their friends, family members and fitness fans and take part in the classic.
Stawell will host its annual Mother's Day Classic from North Park once again and the event will involve a four kilometre walk and eight kilometre run.
A limited mobility walk was initiated at the Stawell Mother's Day Classic last year and has now been adopted Australia wide.
Organisers Pam Byron and Merrilyne Middleton could not have imagined the response they would receive to the inaugural Mother's Day Classic last year.
Their vision to start up a classic walk and run in Stawell was rewarded when the event received the Community Event of the Year award at the Northern Grampians Shire Council's Australia Day ceremony.
"It's always an emotional event for me," Mrs Middleton said.
"You see groups of people dressed up in the same outfits, obviously there to help support or raise funds for someone they love. You really feel you are not alone."
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women, with about 40 new diagnoses each day.
The Mother's Day Classic, initiated by Women in Super, will this year pass the $25 million mark in funds raised for National Breast Cancer Foundation research, achieving a lasting impact on survival statistics and providing research answers for a range of other cancers.
Mother's Day Classic national chair, Louise Davidson, said 8500 families across Australia participated together in the event last year and she expected this number to increase in 2015.
"Our event honours those who have faced breast cancer, yet we are getting increasing numbers of participants with no direct links to the disease," Ms Davidson said.
"They want to take part because they recognise that this is a great cause and a wonderful, healthy family activity to do together."
Volunteers are now being sought to assist with the Mother's Day Classic in Stawell.
Registrations for the run and walk will be taken on the day between 8am and 9am.
Various entrant costs are offered: Adult - $20, Student/Health Card holder - $12, Child (16 years and under) - $10, Family (two adults and up to four children) - $50, Family (one adult and up to four children) - $30.
