Having gone through a tough patch, the O'Sullivan stables would have been pleased to see Flamsteed and Nabootique both win.
Nabootique was the first to cross the line taking out the Winning Edge Presentation Benchmark 64 Handicap.
Nabootique was having his first start for the O'Sullivan stables after he transferred from Patrick Payne's stables a month ago.
Stable foreman Jade Kennedy said he was a good horse around the stables and that he worked well.
"He is a nice horse to work with. He works well, but you still never know how they are going to race," he said.
The win marked the five year old gelding's fifth career win.
With Jason Lyon onboard Nabootique had a nice run from a good gate and hit the line well.
Kennedy expected the horse to go up in distance at his next start, but was unsure where his next start would be.
"He was too strong for the field," Kennedy said.
Flamsteed also ran home strongly to win the Ararat Hotel After the Last Handicap by almost three lengths handing the O'Sullivans a winning double.
Flamsteed went into the race with decent odds paying $10.50 for the win, but like Nabootique the horse was new to the stables and anything was expected.
Originally prepared for his first run at Donald, the campaign was delayed when the meeting was abandoned.
"He probably raced a bit keen," Kennedy said.
"He was just a little too fresh, so we are hoping he settles now."
The horse pulled for the majority of the race.
Flamsteed's former trainer John Moloney always said the horse had plenty of ability, but never tried.
Fellow Stawell trainer Paul Jones also saluted with Villopoto making it two in a row as he took out the Harvey Norman Benchmark 70 Handicap.
Jones plans on sending the four year old gelding to Melbourne in the coming weeks.
