Navarre were missing key players, with playing coach Daniel Parkin unavailable and Brent Flood another player to miss.
The game was in the balance early, but Beaufort pulled away, leaving Navarre questioning their fitness.
"It was the first real hit out for us," Louis Hannett said.
"We needed a good blow out and some run in the legs. We know now what we need to work on."
While Navarre didn't play badly, Hannett said match fitness was a huge factor and probably resulted in Beaufort winning at the end of the six quarters.
"We had blokes play about three quarters and we were spent," Hannett said.
One player to impress the newly formed coaching pannel was Lachlan Slorach.
Slorach played on a wing and ran out five quarters in warm conditions.
The good thing for Navarre is that they got through injury free and can now focus on their round one clash after Easter.
Hannett himself stood up in the middle of the ground and was one of the better players for Navarre.
Former Stawell Warriors players Jack Duke and Zach Marrow showed their importance to the Beaufort team.
Navarre will kick off its title defence in the Maryborough Castlemaine League on April 11.
