Ms Cain has returned to town to take up a teaching position at St Patrick's Primary School where her education began.
She completed her seven years of primary education at the school before moving to Marian College in Ararat to finish her secondary studies.
Ms Cain was then accepted into the Early Achievers Program at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Ballarat for her involvement with the Justice and Democracy movement while she was at Marian College.
"I studied a Bachelor of Education (Primary) there and loved it," Ms Cain said.
"During my time I was the world youth day ambassador for ACU Ballarat and led a group of students to Europe for the event in 2011."
After completing university Ms Cain moved to Bendigo and took up a position as the grade five and six teacher at St Mary's Primary School in Castlemaine.
This year she finds herself at St Pats as the foundation (prep) teacher of 13 pupils. She is also the religious education leader at the school.
"I am really enjoying teaching foundation this year and finding it very rewarding," she said.
"I think it's a great privilege to be involved in introducing children to school and settling them in."
Ms Cain said she was happy about being able to combine her love of teaching with her love of her home town.
"I love Stawell and the Grampians region, it is where I grew up and I have many wonderful memories with my family and friends here," she said.
"I was in Castlemaine last year, but then had the great opportunity to return to Stawell as the foundation teacher and school religious leader at St Pats.
"I was drawn to teaching because it is a profession where you are encouraging children to achieve their greatest potential and to develop a love of learning.
"Each day I come to work and am happy to be there. I am very excited for the year ahead and I am really enjoying being at St Pats. The staff are fantastic and have been very supportive."
Ms Cain is just one of three new faces at St Patrick's Primary School in 2015. She joins Leon Moloney and Kerrie Ryan as newcomers to the school.
