Melbourne man, Khamis Gewargis Khamis, who has been fighting against the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq has returned to Australia but has yet to be arrested by police.

The Australian government's new terror laws may sentence Australians who travel to, and fight for or against, the Islamic State to life in prison.
The Australian Federal Police confirmed they have spoken to Khamis on the evening of March 12 after he returned to Australia.
"Enquiries relating to his activities while overseas are ongoing and as such it is not appropriate to comment further at this time," an AFP spokesman said.
Khamis, known as George, is an Iraqi-born call-centre operator from Melbourne who joined Dwekh Nawsha, the Assyrian militia, which was stationed just two kilometres from the IS-held town of Batnaya, according to Channel Seven's Sunday Night program.
Dwekh Nawsha is a small Christian fighting force.
"Basically I'm here to defend my land. My people, against Islamic State," Khamis told reporter Denham Hitchcock in Iraq.
"It's not an easy thing to make that decision, to come all the way from there to here, far far away in a danger zone."
He said he went to fight the IS for a "good cause".
"Kill them before they kill you," he said to Sunday Night.
He sleeps in his uniform with his loaded gun against the wall next to him.
When Khamis, who has a wife and two children in Melbourne, was asked if fighting the IS was a noble act he said he would leave it to the public to judge.
On his way home to Melbourne, he was detained in Abu Dhabi for several hours where authorities questioned him on his whereabouts and his activities with Dwekh Nawsha.
Khamis was also questioned after arriving in Melbourne but was released. He has not been charged with any crime.
"Unfortunately it is very serious and I am still concerned," he told Sunday Night.
"I have been asked this question if I am breaking the law but sometimes even the law itself is not that clear"
