The born and bred Melbournian has been appointed a grade five and six teacher at Stawell West Primary School.
Ms Walker, who hails from the suburb of Clifton Springs was later educated at Drysdale Primary School and Geelong High School.
She completed her higher education at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds, Geelong and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Education (Primary).
Ms Walker said she always wanted to make a difference to the lives of people, but for her nursing was never an option.
"I have always wanted to pursue an occupation where I could make a difference to people's lives," she said.
"I faint at the sight of blood, so I thought teaching was the next best option."
Ms Walker has 15 students in her class in her debut year at Stawell West.
"I teach grade five and six at Stawell West Primary School and I am very excited for the year ahead," she said.
"The staff and students are fantastic and have been really welcoming."
Ms Walker said she went through an exhaustive and at times challenging job seeking process.
"I applied for 87 positions overall, I found the process of getting a job quite challenging as there are so many other applicants," she said.
Ms Walker said she has so far enjoyed what the Grampians region has to offer.
"I've only been here for a month and I am slowly exploring the area, but I am enjoying my time here so far," she said.
"I went to Lake Fyans, Halls Gap and Mackenzie Falls on the weekend and I plan to explore more when the weather is a bit cooler."
Ms Walker said it was important for her to build on what she has learned in her first year of primary teaching.
"My career goals at this point in time are just to get another contract next year, I am happy to go wherever teaching takes me, whether it's staying here in Stawell or moving elsewhere," she said.
"My main tips for prospective teachers would be to take initiative at every opportunity, do as much as you can whilst on placements and to always be yourself in job interviews."
