The grass-roots tour pairs a visiting international artist and a notable Australian folk group for shows in small towns and community halls.
Canadian musicians Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys, and Australian sister-duo Siskin River will be hitting the road together and perform at the Glenorchy Memorial Community Hall on Wednesday, March 11 as well as the Moyston Hall on Saturday, March 21.
Gordie and Co were last in Australia only 12 months ago for a string of Australian festivals including Woodford and Sydney Festival, and have barely slept in their own beds in Prince Edward Island since.
Their amazing live show has taken them all over the world, perhaps most notably to WOMAD, Glastonbury and a rainforest festival in Malaysia.
The four-piece have a reputation for the antics of their lead man - while simultaneously playing the fiddle and exhibiting an outright disregard for the physics of a double bass.
Gordie MacKeeman's thrilling 'Crazy Legs' dance style mixes with close-harmony bluegrass vocals, blistering guitar solos, and the lively multi-instrumental talents of Peter Cann, Mark Geddes and Thomas Webb on vocals, banjo, guitar, pedal steel guitar, double bass, percussion, mandolin and banjo.
Modeled on this traditional Australian hall experience, the Festival of Small Halls Summer Tour concentrates on visiting towns where communities are strong, but may not have access to high quality musical acts due to their remote locations, or lack of a suitable venue.
It's a concept borrowed and adapted from the home province of Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys, designed to show off the unique character of each community and the beauty and dignity of some of Australia's oldest community gathering places.
Tickets for the Glenorchy event are available for $25 (adults) or $20 (concession). Children 12 years of age and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.festivalofsmallhalls.com, directly from the Glenorchy Hall or at council's municipal offices in Stawell.
