Murphy has been at the club since her junior days and in recent years has been the A grade assistant coach to Jess Parry.
Parry will play her role in the team again this year, but this time around she will be the assistant to Murphy .
Parry is a player of the newly formed state league team Ballarat Sovereigns which will see her time compromised.
"Jess has netball commitments with Ballarat Sovereigns and has coached for several years," Murphy said.
"She deserved a break so we have reversed roles. I'm really excited to step up."
Following a successful year on the courts last year Murphy is expecting all team to be competitive again this season.
While the A grade will need to find a couple of strong mid court players to fill the void of injured Meg Newton and Meaghan Armstrong, they will have a similar line up to their 2014 premiership side.
Murphy herself is still unsure of where she will be playing as she continues to rebuild strength in her knee after a reconstruction.
"Hopefully after a solid pre-season it will be feeling back to normal," Murphy said.
"Then come tryouts, so I will assess where it is at and do whatever is best for the teams."
A grade won't be the only team with some fresh new faces as the B grade line up also look set to lose three valuable players from last year.
Navarre are already well into their pre-season with training sessions running throuhgout January while their tryouts finished earlier this week.
"It's such a great group of girls at Navarre," Murphy said.
"We all play for enjoyment so I don't feel too much pressure to coach."
Other Navarre coaches include Meg Newton coaching the B grade, Rhi Davis and Bek Seeary coaching C grade, Maxine Clough coaching the under 17s, Joan Pyke coaching the under 15s and Leonie Bibby coaching the under 13s.
