Trained by Bob Mahncke at Woorndoo, Lynden Abbey had just one start in between her two victories on the Stawell track and now with a bit of maturity, looks like she could become a big race winner for the Mahncke family.
While Mahncke missed the last win while undergoing a hip operation, he saw plenty of positives in the mare's run on Monday.
"She does like this track that is for sure," Mahncke said.
"She is a very honest horse and she is improving with age."
Lynden Abbey used the Stawell Times News sprint lane to dash clear of her rivals and win by a head.
While Mahncke is content with her racing at country meetings for now he would like to see more fillies and mares races across the state.
"People get a filly foal now and they wish it was a colt," Mahncke said.
"Yes they can be equally as athletic and what not, but they shouldn't have to race against colts and geldings all the time."
Mahncke compared mares racing against geldings to women taking on Boris Becker in tennis.
In Western Australia trainers are notified of mares and fillies races and as a result they have more mares and fillies competing.
"It makes things easier for the breeding process, if you can race against the same horses and have a chance of winning," Mahncke said.
Mahncke had no plans for Lynden Abbey, but said it would be a race by race career as she was no superstar.
