It saw the town's community come together in a wonderful atmosphere to raise money for Breast Cancer research.
That is why the Mother's Day Classic for Breast Cancer was awarded the Community Event of the Year at yesterday's official Australia Day ceremony.
A group of 430 participants, made up of serious runners, recreational walkers and family groups, completed the course, which covered distances of four kilometres and eight kilometres.
For the first time anywhere, a 400 metre walk for people with limited mobility was also included. That event was such a success that it has now been taken up Australia-wide.
A committee of 10 people worked hard for 12 months to plan and run the event and a total of $13,105 was raised.
"Congratulations to all involved in the Mother's Day Classic for Breast Cancer - the winner of the Community Event of the Year," Northern Grampians Shire Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson.
Many community organisations were also involved in helping with setting up, catering, registrations, directing participants on the course and other important jobs.
Local businesses willingly supported the event which was assisted by generous donations and help from other individuals.
Planning has already started for the 2015 Walk and the committee is looking forward to another successful community event.
