Bach has had a colourful coaching career in Stawell and after initial disappointment of leaving Stawell Warriors he is excited by his new role.
While the club has had little preseason to date things are expected to heat up through the middle of January when training becomes compulsory.
Bach aims to have a season full of improvement and hopes that some recruiting in the off season will get them started.
So far Great Western could pencil in the signings of Matt Newton and Gavin Slorach from the Swifts Football Club and there were some big name country players still in discussion with the club.
"We wanted to build a solid team around a couple of new players," Bach said.
"Not necessarily big key position players, just new faces that do the basics well."
Bach is happy with the numbers at training all things considered and is looking forward to a good start in the new year.
"I'll be working around fitness based things," Bach said.
"Once I'm satisfied with the fitness the ball work will follow."
The club have sat down and spoken about goals and where they would like to be at seasons end and like most clubs Bach wants to play finals.
"We want to play finals," Bach said.
"We think we are capable of that if we get everyone to commit and have a real crack."
Bach is loving being back coaching, but would like to lighten the load with an assistant if someone is willing.
The Lions will take part in a training camp out in Halls Gap in the New Year where they will participate in both recreational activities and intense training sessions.
"We haven't made much of a start, but we are looking okay," Bach said.
Great Western will return to the track on January 14 training and continue pre season on both Monday and Wednesday nights.
Sessions wont be compulsory until late January.
"A couple of light runs will just bring the group back together," Bach said.
