The Paul Jones trained galloper shot to the front in the home straight and proved too strong for her rivals, holding on to claim victory in the $15,000 event.
In just her fourth run back from a spell, Spanish Vixen has been in good form, having placed on two occasions and running a strong fourth at her other start.
Jones was pleased with the horse and the ride of apprentice Caitlin Jones, who is no relation.
"There was no speed in the race so it was always the plan to come home strong," Jones said.
"Our mare had a stronger turn of foot and was good enough to get home."
For the Jones duo it was always the plan to sit back and come home fast and that was what she did.
"It was a generous pace early, Weir's horse got out on the corner and took her on, but she was good enough to hold on," Jones said.
For Jones the only real challenge was presented by the Darren Weir trained gelding Something To Share, which was ridden by former Stawell jockey Jack Hill.
Something to Share took an early lead, but couldn't match it with Spanish Vixen over the concluding stages.
Adding to the spirited run home Spanish Vixen was able to complete the race on her own accord, after Caitlin Jones dropped her whip with 200 metres to run.
"Watching it live I thought Caitlin was just riding overl confident," Jones said.
"I didn't realise she had dropped the whip. Spanish Vixen is a good genuine mare who doesn't need to be encouraged to get to the line."
Spanish Vixen was sent out the $2.60 popular pick in the race.
Spanish Vixen has been nominated for the Mortlake Cup tomorrow, but Jones was still unsure whether he would back the mare up so soon.
