One hundred and fifty years on, 2014 provides us the opportunity to celebrate a century and a half of worship and service in the Stawell community.
The milestone is worth celebrating in any organisation, however especially Stawell Baptists as it has met and worshipped on the one site for the whole time, except for a short period during the late 1800s when the worship centre suffered some structural damage and the congregation met in the mechanics institute.
The faith community of Stawell Baptist Church has changed face over the years along with the Stawell community and like any group it has had its ups and downs. However the church has remained faithful to its worship and service to and for the local community.
Over the years many families have had involvement with the church and it is inviting people who have any historical memorabilia, photos, certificates, stories and documents that reflect the history of the church in the community to contact it so that worshippers can create a comprehensive historical picture for future generations to enjoy.
Stawell Baptist Church has issued an invite for the community to join with it in celebrating the life of the church and its ministry into the community with a series of special events in November.
The first will be a worship and thanksgiving service with reverend Craig Allan and guest speakers to be held at 10am on Sunday, November 2.
That will be followed by a pleasant afternoon of celebrations at 2pm which will include music by the brass band, unveiling of a plaque, Lynton Allan, community singing and an historical display.
Please bring a plate to enjoy a shared afternoon tea.
The following morning (Monday, November 3) a prayer meeting will be held at 11am.
Tuesday, November 4 promises to be a poignant day of celebration with a family picnic at Cato Park (Victoria Street) from 11am.
Bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy games including toss the gum boot, bob for apples, egg and spoon, three legged and sack races.
