The project seeks to raise funds for the purchase of 100 suitable chairs for the Skene Street School's Multi Purpose Room.

When the Multi Purpose Room was constructed, it was obvious there was a lack of seating within the facility and the Rotary Club of Stawell immediately commenced a fundraising campaign.

The campaign involves asking Stawell and district businesses and their staff, along with members of the communities of Stawell and Ararat, to sponsor chairs at a cost of $75 each.

Rotary Stawell's Director of Youth Services, John Launder, said as of mid October, sponsorship had been received for 42 chairs.

This includes the initial donation from Stawell Gold Mines.

"We have also received sponsorships from Stawell Residents and Ratepayers Association and Stawell Neighbourhood House," Mr Launder said.

"The remainder of funds has been received from individual sponsors. We thank all donors for their generosity."

Mr Launder said the club needs to raise funds for a further 58 chairs and are now appealing to both Ararat and Stawell businesses and the local communities to get behind this project.

"We would like to complete the project by mid November to present to the school before their annual presentation night, which is held in the Multi Purpose Room," Mr Launder said.

"We also understand that Principal Robyn Anyon is planning to retire and we feel that the completion of project would be a welcome parting gift in recognition of her service which she would appreciate."
