Teenager Zayne Hall requested the return of the event after he bought three ferrets earlier this year.
Upon learning from his dad that the Stawell Show previously conducted ferret races he thought he'd ask the Show committee to put it back on the programme.
Some other ferret owners have also indicated their interest so the committee was happy to reinstate the event and will proudly stage the 2014 Ferret Cup.
Show organisers are hoping for a big turnout; ferret racing is a lot of fun for the owners, spectators, and ferrets too.
The ferrets run through lengths of PVC pipe and the first to emerge at the other end wins.
Entries will be taken on the day and ferrets can be left in the Animal Nursery before and/or after the race, allowing owners to enjoy all of the Show entertainment on offer.
Ferrets must be brought to the Show in secure cages.
Camerons Plumbing and Hardware is sponsoring the event and has donated a range of prizes as well as the racecourse itself.
There will be prizes for all place getters, a special prize for the friendliest ferret, and the 2014 Ferret Cup Trophy, donated by Pykes Pets and Cycles, will be presented to the winner.
The Stawell Show is now just a little over a week away and will be held on Saturday, October 25. The Ferret Cup is scheduled to commence after lunch, at about 2pm.
