Ther tour will roll into town on Friday, October 24
You might remember the exploits of former Stawellite Paul Egan over the last five years, riding in the annual Tour de Cure Signature Tour fundraiser with Mark Beretta from Channel 7's Morning Show.
This year, they rode from Sydney to Hobart and helped to raise more than $3million for cancer research, prevention and support.
In this year's Victorian Country Tour, Paul, along with 25 other dedicated riders and supporters will ride from Ballarat to Maryborough, onto Dunkeld, into Stawell and then finish in Bendigo, a four day ride with a of total of 507 kilometres ridden.
The goal for this Tour is to raise $100,000 for cancer research.
Paul has been a five year veteran of riding with Tour de Cure, and has explained why visiting Stawell on this ride will be so special.
"It will be amazing to ride into Stawell on October 24, as even though I live in Brisbane now I will always be a Stawell boy at heart.
"Tour de Cure's goal is to support all the communities that it rides through and I will be so proud to present a cheque of $5000 to the new Stawell District Hospital Oncology Unit from part of the funds that we raise.
"My mother passed away from cancer in the Stawell hospital 25 years ago this year, so I am looking forward to supporting other cancer patients with this donation."
"To make sure most of the funds from our fundraising go to the researchers we are looking for people to help out by billeting our riders for one night on Friday, October 24, " Paul said.
"All you need to supply is a warm shower and a bed. All meals and other requirements are taken care of," he said.
