Police members from Northern Grampians Shire Highway Patrol and emergency services attended the scene of the incident that occurred just after 12 noon.
The driver of a green ford ute travelling south east along Grant Street is alleged to have failed to give way to the driver of a maroon car heading north west along Wimmera Street.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the subsequent crash. The maroon vehicle coming to rest just metres from the front fence of a Stawell residence.
Police said the 78 year old driver of the green ford ute will be served with a $295 fine and loss of three demerit points for failing to give way.
