Going into his first senior grand final Whitehead had already won the top individual honour of the Dellar Family Medal League best and Fairest in 2012, but the ultimate prize was on offer - He wanted a premiership.

Whitehead like most of his team mates was nervous going into the match, however showed no signs as he took the field.

Always one step ahead or one step clear, Whitehead looked in a league of his own and was a clear favourite for the VCFL best on ground medal.

Whitehead spent time in the middle and in defence where he was able to cut off many of Laharum's attacking entries.

Laharum knew Whitehead was dominating and tried to counteract his influence in the second half, but had little success.

Whitehead was always confident Swifts would be able to win if they could put four quarters of good football together.

He was a modest winner of the best on ground award and while he was happy with his performance he was just happy playing his part for the team.

Other strong players on the day included Scott Carey who won plenty of the ball in the middle, Jakob Davis who played a defensive role on young gun Daniel Eason, Julian Carr and Nick Pickering.

Pickering was the only present day player to have played in Swifts 2003 premiership team.
