Parks Victoria has just re-opened the popular 4.6 kilometre return track. The relaxing deep gully walking track was closed after being damaged by the Northern Grampians fire in January 2014.
Contractors and staff from Parks Victoria have been working to repair hard hit visitor attractions since the fires. The recovery works program has already seen the successful re-opening of Zumsteins Picnic Area and now the re-opening of the MacKenzie River Walk to Fish Falls provides an additional opportunity for visitors to explore the Northern Grampians.
Dave Roberts, Ranger In Charge, Grampians National Park said a pedestrian footbridge has been repaired along the walking track, tree risk work has been completed and numerous repairs to the walking track have been undertaken.
"The team has worked hard to get the walking track open safely and it is great to be able to provide access to Fish Falls ahead of the school holidays. This walk is very popular and allows visitors to enjoy the river in a way not available in other parts of the Grampians.
"We're very pleased to have it open once again for visitors to enjoy."
Mr Roberts said the next re-opening target is to complete repairs to damaged infrastructure at MacKenzie Falls and on the walking track from Fish Falls to the base of MacKenzie Falls, with the aim of having this area open by the end of September.
