Now a resident of Stawell's Eventide Homes Mrs Fox has just celebrated her 103rd birthday.

Friends and family joined Mrs Fox to celebrate the major milestone last Monday.

It was an intimate affair, one that reflected her modest approach to life to never want to cause a fuss or be the centre of attention.

And when few can remember what they were doing last week, the fact that Mrs Fox's earliest memory occurred almost a century ago is also something to be admired.

"My father died when I was very young (six years old) so it was just me and my mother and we moved around a lot," she said.

"My mother and I always lived a quiet life."

Mrs Fox was born in Stawell and grew up in Navarre before a cousin from Western Australia travelled across the nullarbor to join her and her mother and the trio relocated to Inglewood, Clunes and for a time Ballarat.

Mrs Fox then met the love of her life Vic and the couple were married for 70 years until his passing at age 97 in 2012.

The couple have two sons, Roy who lives in Warwick, Queensland and Ivan who resides at Cobram Maroubra.

After living in Great Western for a short period of time the Foxs relocated to a farm in disrepair at Callawadda and spent the next 30 years developing the property.

Mr Fox then semi retired and the couple moved to an address in Wimmera Street, Stawell where they would spend close to the next 40 years.

Mrs Fox was a Dressmaker by profession, creating clothes for her family from early on until as she puts it, 'couldn't do it any longer'.

"We were always free to do what you want to do, we travelled a lot around Australia but never overseas," she said.

Mrs Fox said she still enjoys reading the paper, visits from friends and gazing out her window, her bedroom overlooks the grounds of the Stawell Secondary College.

Her approach to life is testament to how far she has come, she tells people to 'take things as they come' and 'expect things as you see them'.
