With everything running from September through to November, the brochure is full of exciting courses, health and wellbeing activities and fun arts and crafts.
Stawell Neighbourhood House's new coordinator, Jenny Greenberger, said she began organising the program when she started her new role in July.
Jenny and her husband Peter have returned to Stawell (Pomonal) after several years living in Warrnambool. Jenny comes from a background in teaching and more recently has worked as a Secondary School Chaplain.
Jenny said she hopes the people of Stawell will call in to Powerhouse at 42 Sloane Street to pick up a brochure and really get behind these new activities.
"It comes down to the old saying, if we don't use it we lose it," she said.
"I've heard people say how much Stawell seems to have lost over recent years, but here is a chance to do something new. So please get involved."
Courses are designed for people who wish to improve their skills, and increase their job opportunities.
"We are very excited to have BRACE running a course called 'Provide the Coffee Experience' which involves seven hours of training over two afternoons which will thoroughly enhance participants' skills in making a great espresso coffee," Jenny said.
Also on offer are Responsible Serving of Alcohol, Responsible Gambling, Food Handling and First Aid courses, which are vitally important for people who wish to work in the hospitality industry but also valuable for people involved in sporting or social clubs.
An excellent way to increase your volunteer base is to have people qualified in these areas.
Other courses designed to improve skills include Adult Literacy and Numeracy courses taught by Jenny herself as a Victorian Institute of Teaching registered teacher. Her chaplaincy background will ensure that people will be treated in a friendly, respectful and confidential manner, should they be brave enough to admit that they need to work on these areas of their lives.
Computers, iPads and iPhones are so common nowadays and Stawell Neighbourhood House offers courses at various levels to help people get the very most from these devices.
For the children, Stawell Neighbourhood House offers some after school and school holiday activities. Kids Club will operate on Mondays, Youth Group Wednesdays and on Thursdays, the organisation will offer a homework support group. All activities will run from 4pm to 5.30pm and some snacks will be provided.
Playgroup, held every Wednesday morning, continues to be very popular for pre-schoolers. Stawell Neighbourhood House is fortunate to have been donated many of the old Toy Library toys, so there is a terrific range of fun things for the kids to play with while the mums and dads enjoy a catch up.
This week, the Child and Maternal Health Nurse gave an informative talk to the mums and stayed for the whole session so that questions could be answered.
Health and wellbeing activities on offer include Tai Chi, a Walking Group, Mindfulness and Awareness Practise - morning and evening, a cooking class and a range of relaxing drop in times for men, women and mixed social support.
A creative a performing arts section includes music, art and craft activities. Come along to make a silk scarf for yourself, some new jewellery or a knitted garment.
There is a Working With Wool group, especially for male knitters who might like to meet other men with similar interests and also improve their skills.
Two art projects are on offer. The first is to create a three dimensional art installation to improve the entrance to the Powerhouse building and then an opportunity to use new skills to create individual art works for an exhibition.
The other is a Cross Cultural Project to use recycled materials to create saleable crafts as a fundraising project.
If you love music, play guitar or ukulele, then join the new music group 'Powerchords'. To be run in partnership with SPACI, this new strum club should be a great chance to develop skills and have lots of fun playing and learning new music with others.
Enrolments are needed for all classes, to ensure there is enough numbers for each group to go ahead. The closing date for enrolments is Friday, August 29.
