This year there will be up to 700 firefighter jobs available over summer and into autumn.

This is an opportunity for people to be part of the firefighting effort to protect their own communities and broader Victorian communities.

Over summer DEPI and Parks Victoria's project firefighters are at the frontline fighting bushfires in partnership with the CFA and other emergency response agencies.

When conditions allow, they are also a core part of the Government's fuel reduction program carrying out important planned burns, slashing and fuel break maintenance to reduce bushfire risk to people, communities and the environment.

Project firefighting opportunities are available at more than 80 locations across Victoria from big towns like Ballarat and Bendigo, to small towns like Mitta Mitta in the north east and Underbool in the Mallee.

Every year DEPI and Parks Victoria employ seasonal project firefighters to work throughout the warmer months to assist with prevention and suppression of bushfires in parks and forests.

Project firefighters also play a key part in reducing bushfire risk and are employed to prepare and carry out planned burns and other fuel reduction works like track clearing and slashing.

A range of seasonal positions is on offer including roles as firefighters, fire support officers, hover exit crew and rappel crew members.

Applications to be a project firefighter in 2014 will close on Sunday, August 31. Applications can be made online at http://jobs.careers.vic.gov.au/pff
