Partly cloudy. Scattered showers until later tonight, more frequent in the south. Scattered snow showers near the Grampians above 600 metres. Local hail and thunder. Winds westerly 30 to 40 km/h turning southwesterly 30 to 45 km/h in the morning then decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h in the evening. Daytime maximum temperatures around 10.

Saturday 2 August

Partly cloudy. Areas of morning frost. Light winds. Overnight temperatures falling to around zero with daytime temperatures reaching around 12.

Sunday August 3

Patchy morning fog. Areas of morning frost. Sunny day. Light winds. Overnight temperatures falling to between minus 1 and 1 above zero with daytime temperatures reaching around 13.

- KEVIN Erwin's fight for funding for the Western Highway duplication through to Stawell goes far beyond his work as a Northern Grampians Shire Councillor.

Cr Erwin is also a Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteer and has been a member of the Western Highway Action Committee since 2004.

At least 33 people have been killed on the stretch of highway between Beaufort and Dadswells Bridge since 1994.

A further 142 people have been seriously injured, another 177 were in some way involved in the incidents.

RESIDENTS throughout Stawell and district are being urged to wear their favourite pair of jeans today and make a donation for Jeans for Genes Day.

Jeans for Genes Day is celebrating its 21st birthday today and residents can continue to make a difference by donning their jeans and donating to assist the work of scientists at the Australian Children's Medical Research Institute.

Sport:

CKS SWIFTS will enjoy their greatest challenge of the year when they meet an undefeated Laharum in tomorrow's Horsham District Football League clash.

Swifts bounced back from two disappointing losses with a good win over Noradjuha Quantong, but a game against Laharum will show them what they are up against come finals time.

Coach Ben Martin said it was a huge test for his young team, but there was no pressure.
