It wasn't just ice that hindered movements that day, with Stawell also shrouded in heavy fog, making for a magical view when the sun appeared on the horizon just after 7am.
The fog made way for a mostly sunny day with the temperature rapidly rising. Stawell reached 10 degrees by midday before a final top of 13.7 degrees at 4.30pm.
Wednesday morning wasn't much warmer with sub zero conditions experienced once again. It was -0.8 degrees before climbing to a maximum of 9.2 degrees.
The freezing mornings capped off a week of low temperatures which also included the lowest daily maximum of the year, recorded the previous Tuesday.
Stawell topped just 8.5 degrees that day and struggled to make double figures for the rest of the week with daytime temperatures averaging 10 degrees Celsius.
The town's average daily maximum temperature for the month of July (11.4) is already just more than a degree below the long term average of 12.5 degrees.
Overnight minimums have also been a degree colder than usual this month with the mercury, on average plummeting to 3.2 degrees Celsius.
With forecast rainfall yesterday, Stawell has surpassed 20 millimetres of rain for the month of July, but is likely to fall short of its monthly average of 58.4mm.
