Residents from Stawell who had heard the news and felt the sudden cold snap, made the trip to Mt William early on Friday morning, along with many visitors from South Australia who are enjoying their school holidays.
Snow had actually fallen on Thursday down to about 800 metres after temperatures dropped to minus 1.3 degrees Celsius. However, when the mercury fell to -2.6 degrees Celsius overnight, snow was recorded down to 600 metres on Thursday night.
This allowed visitors to enjoy plenty of snow in the Mt William carpark, but the thrill was even bigger for those who braved the chilly conditions and completed the two kilometre walk to the summit.
Even at 8am on Friday, the temperature was -0.7 and visitors were able to experience snow falling on Mt William throughout the early part of the day.
This ensured cover remained for most of Friday, giving the many visitors who ventured up the mountain plenty of thrills.
It is the second time this month that snow has fallen on Mount William.
