From their 41 forward entries Swifts managed to score just 17 times, allowing Edenhope-Apsley to clench victory in a nailbiting finish. For most of the game, scoring was goal for goal with neither team getting any further than eight points in front.
The first quarter saw Swifts leading by three points despite the home team having more shots on goal.
As the match progressed Swifts silly errors increased, as did the opportunities that they let slip away.
As disappointing as the loss is to coach Ben Martin, the fact that they didn't take their opportunities hurts more.
"We lost by one point," Martin said.
"Yes the result isn't what we wanted, but the disappointing thing is we had our chances."
Martin, upon reflection of their loss, said the delivery inside their attacking fifty was costly and probably the difference between the two teams.
"Each time we had a good entry we scored," Martin said.
"In the end our bad entries outweighed the good."
In the second half the game became more congested and clearing the ball from the middle was more difficult.
The scoreboard was still ticking over, but at a much slower rate than both teams are used to.
"Neither of the teams could be separated really," Martin said.
"It was goal for the goal the whole game.
"In the end we missed a lot of opportunities, but we probably only needed another 20 seconds."
The last quarter was always going to go down to the wire with neither team giving an inch. Edenhope were the first to break the Swifts defence kicking two goals in a row, forcing Swifts to respond.
They did just that, answering with two goals of their own.
With just a couple of minutes left on the clock the scores were level.
Edenhope-Apsley bombed long and deep into their forward line where the ball was punched across the line for a minor score.
Swifts were quick to rebound into their own fifty, but another poor inside fifty meant the siren sounded before a score could be achieved.
Swifts were slightly undermanned with several experienced players unable to play including Jake Goodes, Julian Carr, Luke Mitchell and Josh Molan who have each been pivotal in the Swifts first half of the year.
"With some players out, it gave others the chance to step up," Martin said.
"We had some players that really surprised us. On the other hand, there were guys that were under pressure to perform and they didn't fire a shot."
Martin certainly didn't use their lack of players as an excuse as to why they lost.
Best players for the Swifts were Ricky Whitehead for his effort in the middle and Scott Carey who was at his best in the first quarter and played the game out.
