Residents who visit the Australia Post Stawell Post Shop may notice the new collection boxes, which are now placed permanently across the post office network to encourage small change donations from customers.
Scotney Hayter from the Stawell Post Shop has been pleased with the eagerness from everyone in the community to dig deep so far.
"Customer support has been fantastic," Mr Hayter said.
However, Mr Hayter urges everyone to keep up the good work, as the job is never finished.
"This is a permanent program, so you can donate anytime."
This new program also has Australia Post Managing Director, Ahmed Fahour excited about the possibilities.
"This public charitable fund is new and exciting territory for Australia Post," he said.
"We are extremely excited to officially announce that the Our Neighbourhood Trust is open to receive donations. The Trust makes it possible for all Australians to play a role in building healthier, vibrant and more inclusive communities.
"We serve nearly a million Australians in our stores, every day. Together, imagine how much impact we could make to support our neighbours who are less fortunate if everyone donated their small change."
The Trust will distribute donations to local community projects that need vital help, such as community groups teaching seniors how to use a smartphone to keep in touch with loved ones and education programs for disadvantaged youth or new migrants and refugees. These community projects are also funded via the Our Neighbourhood Community Grants program.
