During the recovery and clean up process after the Northern Grampians fire, the Regional Waste Management Group, Desert Fringe was responsible for the collection of waste metal from properties in the fire affected area.

Residents in the fire affected area had the option of retaining the money from the sale of the waste metal for themselves or donating the funds to a community organisation. As a result of the collection, $4000 was raised for community distribution.

The funds have been divided equally between the three local fire brigades, Laharum, Brimpaen and Dadswells Bridge along with BlazeAid, who spent a great deal of time in the community helping with re-fencing.
