Stawell's tribute on Anzac Day

STAWELL - Residents have braved near freezing conditions to commemorate the 99th Anzac Day.

People of all ages gathered at the Stawell War Memorial in Main Street at 6am before making their way to the Gunfire Breakfast at the Stawell Entertainment Centre.

Returned service men and women, along with members of the community, will then travel to Great Western for a service at 9am.

This will be preceded by a short march to the Great Western war memorial.

Refreshments will be provided at the Great Western Mechanics Institute Hall following the service.

The Stawell and district community will then gather for the traditional service in Stawell.

Community members will return to the War Memorial in Main Street at 11am for the service.

Ballarat Vietnam Veteran Bryan Nicholls will be the guest speaker at today's Anzac Day service in Stawell.

Returned service men and women, along with interested members of the community, will march down Stawell's Main Street to the cenotaph, led by members of the Stawell Brass Band.

Those wishing to march should gather at the Stawell Medical Centre in Wimmera Street by 10.45am.
