Navarre had a big home crowd in to witness the unveiling of last year's flag and to see if they were up to the challenge again this season.
The crowd also turned up to watch former AFL star Darren Jolly in action, but unfortunately he didn't play.
It was a solid first quarter for Navarre seeing them get the upper hand kicking five goals to four.
The margin at the first break was only nine points, but could have been much more had Navarre kicked straight.
Matt Brown was influential in the first quarter kicking all four goals for Lexton and that was something that needed to be addressed at quarter time.
"At quarter time we adjusted our defence and sent Floody (Brent Flood) to Brown.
"I think he only kicked the one goal after that first quarter so that was pleasing," coach Daniel Parkin said.
In the second quarter the team game of Navarre shone through as the Lexton group tried hard to gel.
Navarre scored six unanswered goals in the second term.
"We out played them at the contest and really played as a team.
"They had about 15 new blokes out there so I would say they will be tough to beat come the middle of this season," Parkin said.
The second half was a more balanced game with both teams settling into some rhythm.
Parkin asked the team to just continue playing the way they were, having a five goal buffer to work with.
Ash Driscoll played his best senior game kicking four goals and was an option each time Navarre brought it out of the middle.
Brent Flood was also among the best players after he played a shut down role on key forward Matt Brown as were Sam Kaye and Josh Driscoll.
Parkin led from the front kicking three goals before suffering from cramps towards the end of the third quarter, limiting his input.
The final score saw Navarre 17.6.108 defeating Lexton 11.5.71.
The Maryborough Castlemaine and District Football League scoreboard will be published in Thursdays edition of the Stawell Times News.
