Council will make contact with Premier Denis Napthine later this morning, along with key figures in the racing industry, asking if there was anything that could be done to secure the race meeting for Stawell.
Stewards and turf experts from Racing Victoria had previously ruled out the Stawell Gold Cup being contested at Stawell, following an apparent act of deliberate vandalism where chemicals were sprayed into the track, killing the grass.
A councillor attended an urgent meeting of the Stawell Racing Club last night to discuss options that could be made available, but described it as a one in a thousand chance of having the track in a suitable condition for racing on Easter Sunday.
The club expects to know more later today.
