Stawell's line dancers gear up for social

The Stawell Senior Citizens Line Dancers have been hitting the dance floor for another year as they gear up for their annual social in a couple of months.

President of the Senior Citizens Club Jeanette Ekman said the group was looking forward to the upcoming event.

"Our social in May is to celebrate our association, with all proceeds to go to Stawell Regional Health," she said.

The Stawell group has in the past boasted an amazing number of dancers, putting it outside of the cities as one the largest groups of dancers in the state.

Line dancing is held at the Senior Citizens Hall in Victoria Street every Tuesday night and Thursday morning.

Classes for the Intermediate dancers on Tuesday night are held between 6pm and 7pm while beginners take to the hall between 7pm and 8pm.

Classes for beginners on Thursday morning are held between 9am and 10am while intermediate dancers hit the floor between 10am and 11am.

Last year the Stawell Line Dancing Club raised $931 for Stawell Regional Health's new oncology unit.

The funds were raised at a line dancing event held at Stawell Senior Citizens Centre.

During its eight year history, the group has raised more than $10,000 for oncology care at Stawell Regional Health.

A massive fundraiser in 2012, attracting over 140 people from all over the state, raised $3,500 alone.

Line Dancing classes are available to people of all ages and both sexes.
