Northern Grampians Shire Council is replacing the surface of the track after it was extensively damaged by flood in December 2011.
Council is aiming to have the track open for athletics, schools and the community well in time for Easter this year.
Councillor Murray Emerson said applying the synthetic surface of the track commenced this week with a completion date expected in mid-March 2014.
"The track will be closed to the community during this period as it is important that the surface can be applied smoothly and without any contaminants until it sets," he said
"Council and the contractors, WM Loud, have greatly appreciated the patience and understanding shown by the community during the works.
We know that having North Park unavailable for most of the past four months has caused some inconvenience, but we can assure that it will be back better than ever very soon.
"We are very eager to get onto this great facility at North Park. The synthetic surfacing will be the icing on this cake."
