The Stawell Golf Club hosted one of the qualifying rounds in the national challenge competition.
The Stawell combination now advance to the national final to be held at the RACV Royal Pines Resort.
Clayton and Waters won the fourball best ball aggregate challenge at Stawell with their round of 82 points.
This round blitzed the remainder of the field. Max Waters led the charge with his round of 45 points, while Daryl Clayton added support with a round of 37 points.
Runners up in the challenge were Jeff Savage and Michael Kelly with a combined round of 76 points. The best individual stableford scores on the day came from Frank Kuypers (40) in the men's section and Kaye Skinner (36) in the ladies section.
Ian Sibson added to his successful day when he produced the Thrifty longest drive.
The RACV Insurance nearest the pin on the sixth hole was won by Phil Matthews, the RACV Resorts 13th hole winner was Peter Homden, Suzuki ninth winner was John Carter and the winner on the 17th hole was Lyn Willcock.
As part of the holiday weekend of golf an 18 hole cross country par three ambrose event made up of teams of three was played.
In the scratch division the winning team on the day was Kaye and Matthew Skinner and Max Waters, who fired in a round of 50.
Handicap winners were Peter and Joe Dunn and Jayden Dignan with a nett 42.
Nearest the pin winners over the 18 holes were Alan Jamieson, Peter McLeod, John Young, Matt Skinner, Leigh Hancock, Mal Cameron, Rob Scott, Glen Robson, Jayden Dignan, Joe Dunn, Jan Alborough, Todd Matthews, David Coe, Matt O'Donnell, Adam Griffin, Geoff Alborough, Kaylene Cameron and Trevor Taggart.
