Nominations are sought for the by-election to fill the vacancy on council, created by the resignation of Councillor Paul Russell in December.
Returning Officer Iain Maclean said anyone interested in representing their local community is encouraged to nominate.
"Prospective candidates, however, are urged to act quickly in lodging their nomination to ensure they don't miss out," Mr Maclean said.
Nomination forms must be lodged with Mr Maclean at the Media Centre, Grandstand, Central Park, 10-12 Main Street, Stawell from Thursday, February 6.
Prospective candidates should contact the Returning Officer on 0448 806 859 to make an appointment.
All nomination forms must be completed correctly, include a nomination fee of $250, and be lodged by 12 noon on Tuesday, February 11. Late nominations cannot be accepted.
To save time at the election office, candidates can pre-fill their nomination using the VEC's online Candidate Helper atvec.vic.gov.au. The nomination, however, cannot be finalised until the form is physically lodged with the Returning Officer and the fee is paid.
An information session for prospective candidates will be held in the downstairs foyer of the Stawell Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, February 5 at 7.30pm.
This by-election is being conducted entirely by post. Ballot papers and voting information will be mailed to all eligible voters from Tuesday, February 25.
