STAWELL - This year's Australia Day Local Hero accolade has been awarded to Ashleigh Dark and Lynley Hoiles - the duo responsible for establishing 'Adoptable' - a Facebook page with the aim of finding foster carers and new owners for animals in the Stawell and St Arnaud pounds.

The pair started the group because they were tired of the number of animals not receiving a second chance at life after being surrendered, unwanted or lost.
Adoptable's Santa Photo Day in November raised a significant amount of money which will go towards Ashleigh and Lynley's efforts to foster out animals until they find their forever homes.
An estimated 70 people and 100 animals attended the day, including a pet snake.
'Adoptable' has the support of several local foster carers who have agreed to assist Ashleigh and Lynley's work.
