The inaugural race saw the January race meeting reach a new level and really become something to get excited about.
Grampians Tourism Chair Geoff Watts was ecstatic about the running of the second Grampians Halls Gap Cup.
"It is a great event for Halls Gap as we get good exposure locally," he said.
"It's very exciting. It's a bit like the Melbourne Cup here."
With the prizemoney now at approximately $20,000 it is expected that the event will be bigger and better than last year.
"Extra prizemoney should help improve the horse fields and maybe bring someone like Mark Kavanagh (top trainer) to Stawell," Mr Watts said.
The trophy for the winning connections stands at 16 inches and is held in high regard around the area.
The Grampians Halls Gap Cup will again combine with ladies day for a great afternoon at Stawell Racing Club.
The Grampians Halls Gap Cup will feature on Friday, January 17 at the Stawell Racing Club with buses running from Halls Gap to the track via Lake Fyans.
General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the gate.
