The tour, which commences on January 7, provides students the opportunity to learn about a new culture, develop their own leadership abilities and to provide above self by supporting humanitarian projects focused on the education of the poor, the disadvantaged and the disabled.
Rotary would like to acknowledge Stawell Gold Mines, Northern Grampians Shire, and Grampians LLEN for their grants towards these educational projects. Rotary Stawell would also like to thank Mrs Wendy Slorach who, in association with Jetset Horsham, put the tour together, and the community including the many 'knitters' who have been busy knitting beanies and blankets to be delivered to needy children and families in northern Vietnam.
Stawell Rotary is commencing an appeal to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan which devastated a large part of the Phillipines in November.
The club has been in communication with Rotary Club of Northern Davao which is helping to coordinate part of the recovery effort in an area severely impacted by the typhoon.
Rotary North Davao "We humbly request your support to this endeavor by extending any construction supplies such as: galvanized iron sheets, nails, hammers, plywood and other construction materials and equipment."
Rotary plans to ask the Stawell community for donations to send to North Davao to purchase such items and as well raise funds to buy Disaster Aid Boxes to provide emergency shelter for families. Contact secretary tediebear@bigpond.com.
