The accident occurred just before 9am when the 61-year-old driver of a white Ford Falcon Sedan veered onto the wrong side of the road and struck the power pole, lifting it from the ground.
The driver told police he lost control of the vehicle after a coughing fit, but was able to free himself from the vehicle unaided before he was taken to Stawell Hospital suffering minor injuries.
Traffic was diverted around the scene for some time as Powercor worked to return power to the more than 200 customers that were still affected by the outage well into the morning.
Initially a large proportion of Stawell lost power as a result of the crash.
