Heavy rainfall this week ensured the entire region received a good soaking.
While the storm that hit on Tuesday night caused widespread damage to property in Ararat, Stawell escaped without too much damage being reported.
This was despite 27.8 millimetres (112 points) of rain falling overnight, combining with strong winds.
By 4.30pm Tuesday, 8.4mm (34pts) had been recorded, but some heavy downpours were set to follow. At 7.10pm, the rainfall total was still only 10.8mm, but over the next 50 minutes, a heavy downpour dumped a further 14mm, bringing the total by 8pm to 24.8mm.
Steady showers followed to bring the total to 27.8mm by 9am Wednesday. Prior to Tuesday, there had not been much rain activity throughout October.
Falls of 7.8mm on October 1 and a further four millimetres on October 4 was followed by light showers only.
Although rainfall had been recorded on 10 separate days, the total reached up until Tuesday was 18.8mm (76pts).
As a result of the storm activity overnight on Tuesday and some light follow up rain, the total for the month to date had reached 47.2mm (189 points) by 9am yesterday.
The monthly rainfall total for October is down only slightly compared with the monthly average, which is 51mm (203pts), but there is every chance the average will be reached over the next six days.
This activity has followed a fall of 41.8mm (168pts) in September, which was well below the monthly rainfall average of 58mm (233pts). September had rainfall recorded on 16 separate days, but the heaviest fall recorded was only 14.4mm (58pts) late in the month, ensuring the overall total would remain low.
In contrast, the heaviest fall recorded in August was just 11.8mm (48pts) but the total for that month ended up reaching 68.6mm (275pts).
Mt William in the Grampians was also hit hard by the storm activity on Tuesday night. A total of 5.4mm (22pts) was tipped out of the gauge on Tuesday morning.
However, over the next 24 hours, Mt William recorded a rainfall total of 36.4m (146pts). This has been the largest single recording for the month to date. A further 7.4mm (30pts) was recorded to 9am yesterday and the rain had continued into the morning, another 1.8mm being recorded to 10.30am. The rainfall total for the month to date at Mt William has reached a staggering 129.6mm (519pts) which follows on from 105mm (420pts) having been recorded for September.
