Stawell has appeared to be in limbo since the mine announced it was preparing for eventual closure, waiting to see what was going to happen.
However, that could all change now that the mining company has announced the underground operation will continue for some time into 2014.
How long for, no-one really knows, but it’s a good start.
The mining company has been very proactive throughout the transition phase, keeping a skilled workforce of about 150 employed and undertaking projects that will have great benefit for Stawell - long after the mine closes.
There is also a lot happening behind the scenes both at the mine and within the Northern Grampians Shire Council to ensure Stawell not only survives, but prospers once the mine does close.
In the meantime, this latest announcement should go a long way to restoring confidence that Stawell will survive and thrive.
