STAWELL - A large crowd gathered for the launch of a detailed account of the life of the Stawell Woollen Mills at the Stawell Town Hall last Friday.
Publisher Graeme Bennett, along with his wife Barbara, travelled from Bribie Island in Queensland for the book launch that was well attended by members of the community.
The Stawell Woollen Mills is a very detailed and entertaining history of the woollen mill which local business people established in 1923.
After initial failure of the Mill Graeme's father, John Bennett resurrected the Mill after buying it three years later.
Graeme Bennett self published the comprehensive history of one of Victoria's most successful family owned manufacturing businesses with significant contributions from Stawell locals Jim Melbourne and Mill employee Hal Fry.
Mr Bennett thanked Mr Melbourne in particular for his invaluable efforts, which included countless hours collating the large amount of documented material that needed to be condensed.
He said Stawell had always been a place for inventions and praised the strengths, energy, generosity and care that had been shown by people for the town.
After a short presentation by he and his wife, Mr Bennett signed copies of the book for the many people who had come along to grab a piece of history.
