GREAT WESTERN - A Great Western resident has raised concerns over the provision of waste and recycling services in the town.
Jenny Holmes, who lives in Garden Gully Road hasn't had her recycling collected for almost a month and said the situation was a 'load of garbage'.
In correspondence between herself and council Ms Holmes was originally told collection dates should have been finalised by the beginning of September.
"As we enter into the third week since my letter was received at the shire office, I am absolutely astounded that none of the obligations have been met," she said.
"We are being charged for this service but unable to take advantage of it. It just wreaks of incompetence.
"I believe ratepayers would be entitled to seek reimbursement on their next rate instalment notice because we are still being charged for a service we are not receiving."
Ms Holmes said she opted-in to the recycling service in the wake of council's decision to reinstate service routes it initially planned to discontinue when it awarded the new contract.
"I began recycling immediately after opting into the new waste and recycling service two months ago. My bin is full," she said.
Ms Holmes said she doubts she is alone and that other residents are probably having to deal with their bins reaching capacity as well.
"We shouldn't have to put up with this in the 21st century," she said.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Manager Environment and Regulatory Services, Kath Gosden said council was still working with the contractor, Wheelie Waste to set dates for collection.
"As a result of community feedback, council added additional runs after the commencement of the contract. Recycling has not yet started on these runs," she said.
"As the additional areas being serviced changes the length of each run, the contractors are working to minimise the impacts of adding these additional service areas onto the permanent collection.
"We are aiming to have everything finalised for the week commencing October 6.
"Property owners will be notified by mail as to when the service will start and the collection days."
